Network Tap Overview
ImageStream offers a wide range of passive network taps for LAN and WAN monitoring applications. These taps make it possible to monitor 10/100 ethernet and gigabit ethernet LAN traffic, as well as synchronous serial, T1/E1, HSSI, DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, and OC12/STM4 WAN circuits.
Passive taps do not interrupt the flow of network traffic when the monitoring station is being connected or disconnected. This capability makes it possible to install the taps at various locations, and then connect a portable monitoring station to individual taps as needed. Alternatively, some installations may not have a portable monitoring station, with tap points that are all located in the same facility. Under these conditions, the monitoring station may be configured to include enough interface cards to connect all of the required taps, and these connections may be permanent.
The passive network taps described below are organized by application. Follow the associated link for more information on individual products in each category. For more general information on network monitoring, please download ImageStream's Network Monitoring White Paper.
UTP Ethernet Taps
ImageStream's passive UTP ethernet taps are used to monitor 10/100 and GigE twisted pair LAN connections. Single station, quad station, and 4x1 regeneration tap modules are available.
High-Density Ethernet Taps
ImageStream's high-density ethernet taps can monitor up to twenty 10/100 ethernet lines in a 1U chassis. All high-density ethernet taps support redundant AC power.
Optical Taps
ImageStream's optical taps are used to monitor high-speed SONET/SDH interfaces operating at 155 Mbps (OC3/STM1) or 622 Mbps (OC12/STM4), and ethernet over fiber operating at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps. Single, dual, and quad station taps are available in 50:50, 70:30, and 80:20 split ratios for multimode or single mode fiber.
Synchronous Serial Tap
The synchronous serial tap is used to monitor serial connections with data rates up to 4 Mbps. The tap is used in conjunction with different "Y" cables that provide standard connector options including V.35, RS232, and RS422 (EIA530, RS449 or X.21).
T1/E1 Taps
ImageStream's T1/E1 taps are used to monitor one, two or four T1/E1 circuits.
HSSI Tap
The HSSI tap is used to monitor high-speed synchronous serial interfaces operating at speeds up to 52 Mbps.
DS3/E3 Taps
ImageStream's DS3/E3 taps are used to monitor DS3 and E3 circuits.
