PMC Card Overview
ImageStream offers a variety of PMC cards for PCI, CompactPCI, and switch fabric applications. The PMC form factor has become the form factor of choice among many manufacturers because of its ability to be deployed in any PCI environment.
ImageStream has already moved away from dedicated CompactPCI designs in the 3U and 6U formats. This is because a single PMC design can be installed in either a 3U or 6U CompactPCI system using the appropriate carrier card. ImageStream also plans to migrate its PCI cards to this model once the cost of manufacturing ImageStream's PCI carrier card can be reduced to the required price point.
Another advantage of the PMC form factor is its ability to be mounted on a dedicated packet processing blade. These dedicated packet processors can be used with a wide range of PMC cards to create a distributed processing topology that exceeds the processing power of a central host processor with multiple CPUs.
The sections below describe the range of PMC adapters available from ImageStream.
