PCI 1104-O3
The PCI 1104-O3 WAN adapter is designed for use in ImageStream's Industrial Series routers or in OEM products running Linux. The PCI 1104-O3 provides four OC3/STM1 SONET/SDH ports for packet-over-SONET/SDH (POS) applications. It also includes a high-performance embedded network processing unit (NPU) that accelerates packet processing for high-speed routing or monitoring applications.
The PCI 1104-O3 provides a 32-bit 33/66 MHz PCI bus interface that supports signaling at 3.3 or 5 volts. This high-speed PCI bus interface supports up to 2 Gbps throughput, and allows the card to operate at the higher bus speeds supported by ImageStream's Gateway 64 and Enterprise Router.
The PCI 1104-O3 takes advantage of the Wintegra WinPath 777 NPU. The 777 includes an integrated MIPs processor for board control and protocol processing, as well as a packet processing pipeline with four 200 MHz processing cores. The NPU is fully programmable, and can take advantage of new protocols and software features as they are developed.
Another important feature of the PCI 1104-O3 is its modular fiber optic transceivers. The PCI 1104-O3 uses SFP pluggable transceivers so each port can be configured to support any of the available fiber optic interfaces. Pluggable SFP transceivers include multi-mode fiber for short haul applications, intermediate reach single mode fiber for distances up to 15 km, and long reach single mode fiber for distances up to 25 km.
